Good News Broadcasting

1939 - Just before the war ...

Theodore Epp told a radio station manager "We have something from the heart - we would like to present it to the people."  Back to the Bible began to be established.

1954 - From China ...

The time was right to set up an office within the UK.  British Director Gilbert Vinden (an ex missionary to China) coordinated from an office in Reading the broadcasts of Dr. Epp’s Bible teaching on Radio Monte Carlo.

1970's - growing work ...

The work grew, and Gilbert had been succeeded as UK Director by Ninian Lowis and then David Oram. The UK ministry was known as Back to the Bible Broadcast.

1976 - On our own ...

To comply with changing legislation on charities, the UK ministry became autonomous. The Good News Broadcasting Association (Great Britain) Ltd was incorporated in Reading, with registered office 175 Wokingham Road, Reading, RG6 1LU. Despite the new operating name, many still refer to the work as 'Back to the Bible Broadcast', or simply 'The Broadcast'.

1988! - Relocation . . .

David Oram relocated Good News Broadcasting Association (Back to the Bible) from Reading to a rented unit in Bawtry, and a studio with a linked printing works, GNBA Design and Print Ltd.

1995! - Changes ...

David Oram retired and the printing operation ceased. Sam Gordon took over as Director. He moved on to work with Trans World Radio.

1999! - Guests ...

Nick Thompson (ex Mirror Group Newspapers) was appointed as Director.  Nick resigned to pursue other interests in June 2000. ‘Guest’ broadcasters continued the main radio programmes. These included Dr. Steve Brady, Rev. Jim Graham and Rev. Philip Hacking.

2004! - New beginning ...

Our current Director and Bible teacher, Rev. Dr. Derek Stringer left Elmwood Church, Salford, joining the GNBA team full time in March 2004.

2005! - Purpose built . . .

A legacy permitted the ministry to buy its own premises and create a purpose built recording studio. The Ranskill building was occupied in January 2006.

2008! - Expanding Ministry ...

Remaining designated ‘legacy’ money is enabling us to build an extension to include an editing suite and rooms for the expanding ministry.

2010 - Teaching The Word And Touching The World . . .

From Ranskill where we continue to make radio programmes from 1 to 45 minutes, we are now listened to in approximately 150 countries.
We have progressed to become a world-wide provider of Christian ministry by radio and other forms of media.  We supply Bible teaching programmes to stations in the UK and the Irish Republic, across Africa, and also to Japan, Indonesia, Spain and Malta.  We can be heard over Europe, and broadcasts of our programmes span from Eastern Europe over the Middle East, reaching Israel, with listeners in Asia and further afield able to respond. Books are published; the demand for free email message transcripts is growing rapidly, as do calls for Dr. Stringer to preach in churches, teach at conferences and lecture in seminaries.

Warm links...

Although no longer affiliated to Back to the Bible USA, we retain warm links with many of their former international offices assisting them with financial or practical support where possible.

Committed Leadership . . .

We are blessed with a diverse and gifted board of Directors.  Staff numbers are kept to the barest of essentials, ensuring that the UK ministry maintains good stewardship of the funds God provides as we use radio to take the Word of God where radio does it best.

"This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes." Psalm 118:23
